These days the writer who chooses to self-publish must be a marketer, a social networker and a blogger. This is a challenge for me because my default mode is also ‘hermit’. I love the marketing roller-coaster (except when I don’t), but spending day after day in my writing room keeps me sane. Networking with my characters and uncovering the secrets of my plot, to the exclusion of the outside world, are my greatest joys. One of my favourite quotes is from Oscar Wilde: “I spent the morning inserting a comma, and whiled away the afternoon removing it.” Bliss.
